Recently, lots of entertainment news stories showed up ranting and raving about Lady Gaga’s “assault weapon” bra. People seem to be shocked, but they appear to be missing the point here. It’s not a fashion statement, it’s gun rights activism!
Yes, Lady Gaga has helped to develop a gun rights strategy for women: the gun bra. It’s open carry, so it’s mostly legal; but even where it’s not legal, it’s quite difficult for authorities to do anything about it. Because in order for someone to take her guns away, they would have to grab her boobs, and she can claim sexual harassment. And surely the government will be stymied by such a strategy, because if they try to disarm her, they will appear to be sexist, and as such they will likely lose the women’s vote.
It was very insightful for Lady Gaga to realize and exploit this very real weakness in the gun control strategy. Maybe she’s going to market this gun bra to bolster gun rights? (Maybe she could call them: “Sexual Assault Rifles”*, with the advertising slogan: “You can take my guns when you pry them from my cold, dead breasts.”)
Here are some of Lady Gaga’s gun bras:
* (The are called “Sexual Assault Rifles” because if anyone tries to take them from you, they will be guilty of sexual assault for grabbing you there.)
