The immediate runaway success of Mr. Selfridge has caused immediate demand for more retail store history shows on Masterpiece, so PBS is working on it’s first follow-up retail history
show: Mr. Sell Fridge. Yes, it’s
the story of a quirky but imaginative do-it-yourself American retailer who comes to London to revolutionize the kitchen experience,
selling refrigerators and kitchen appliances galore! He’s trying to help
modernize the kitchen for everyone! Oh, but not everyone is happy with this
store, because there are women’s groups attacking Mr. Sell Fridge for trying to
shackle women in the kitchen, while there are also traditionalist groups
demonizing him for trying to liberate women from the drudgery of cooking. And
while Mr. Sell Fridge is only trying to help with convenience and modernity, it
makes no matter, for drama aplenty ensues anyway with protests of his store
from within and without, and competing protests duking it out while our
stalwart kitchen hero is trying to develop and sell all the newest kitchen gadgets and conveniences! And, ironically, his kitchen gadgets work so well, it leaves both
sides of protesters with lots more time on their hands than ever before to
fight and protest back and forth, seeing as how the old way of time-consuming
food preparation and storage is a thing of the past thanks to his ingenious innovations! That’s Mr. Sell
Fridge, coming soon on PBS!
