From what I hear on the news, the U.S. Navy has a laser gun,
or to put that in sci-fi parlance, a death ray. So now that we have a death
ray, can we conquer the world? I’m only asking because in the old movies (and
movie serials), whenever someone developed a death ray, they would try to use
it to conquer the world. Of course, none of them ever did conquer the world,
and they all died, killed by people trying to stop them from conquering the
world, but that’s no reason not to try it now. After all, those were just
movies, and this is real life! I’m sure it would work perfectly to conquer the
world without a hitch. So, can we try it now? (No? Oh, you’re no fun! Bela
Lugosi would be very disappointed in us if we don’t at least try.)
