This TV spot for Depend Undergarments shows a large group of
people all walking to work in normal top-half clothes and just Depends on the
bottom-half. There are mounted police guarding them, but I’d have to think
they’d probably get the opposite treatment in real life, unless it got a permit
as a protest.
But this ad is essentially asking for an undergarment
awareness protest, so it works pretty well, despite lacking all the nightsticks
we’d see in real life.
But the slogan is really good: Underwareness. It plays on
the whole “awareness” thing we hear all the time from the news. And the truth
is, this issue is not undeserving of awareness, despite how many people would
probably prefer not to think about it.
So good ad, and it will likely get people talking, which is (usually)
a good thing for advertising.
