Warren Jeffs Found Guilty

Yes, it seems nothing’s sacred anymore; not even weirdo cults! So there really isn’t freedom of religion after all! Rastafarians can’t smoke pot, and we’re not even allowed to make human sacrifices! See? The Republicans are right: Government intrusion into our lives is spoiling everything! Oh, but he was found guilty in Texas, and that’s a Republican administration, isn’t it? Never mind. What I meant to say was that it would only be unfair government intrusion if it was a Democratic administration. But you know that, right?

But I have to wonder: Do cult leaders who brainwash people into letting them sleep with their underage daughters actually think they’re prophets and that they’re doing God’s work, or do they say to themselves: “I can’t believe they let me scam them into letting me do this stuff!” Because I’m not sure which would be more perverted, really. But I’m pretty sure it is (perverted, that is), no matter which thing they’re thinking.

Jeffs warned the court they’d be punished for repressing him. And guess what’s happening in Texas? There’s a lake that’s turning red (!). Could this be divine punishment? Or is it simply related to the drought? Oh, but perhaps the drought is wrath over Warren Jeffs “persecution”! But probably not. (Sorry to be a buzzkill.) After all, we've successfully survived our government's treatment of other weirdo cult leaders like Charles Manson, David Koresh, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and others, so we'll probably survive this one too. (Sorry to disappoint you.)

Here’s the story:

And here’s the story about the lake turning red:

Oh, and here’s a super-superstitious, doomy end-of-days-ish interpretation of the red lake story! (I wonder why they didn’t connect it to Warren Jeff’s conviction. Um, I mean, “persecution”.) Check it out:
