Gory (The Movie)

I just saw The Raven recently. That’s the 2012 movie about some fiendish serial killer using the writings of Edgar Allan Poe as a basis for his crimes, and then sending Poe and the police on a race to find Poe’s girlfriend before she dies, etc. Edgar Allan Poe always seems to be used for this type of thing, where twisted murderers and crazy megalomaniacs use Poe’s tales and poems as an inspiration for their intricate murderous schemes. But what about using someone else for a change?

Hey, didn’t Edward Gorey write grim tales about death and stuff too? How come nobody has ever made a movie about a fiendish killer using The Gashlycrumb Tinies as a model for his crimes, and sending Edward Gorey on a race against time to stop the murders? And as each child dies one-by-one in the same manner as he wrote in his alphabetic death poem, all the parents and librarians and authors and illustrators would curse him for writing and illustrating such twisted, pernicious works. It could even be an animated cartoon movie done in the style of Gorey’s illustrations. Wouldn’t that be nice for a change?

Maybe it could be called Gory, since the deaths would be gory, and his name is Gorey.
