I haven’t seen these for a while, but I just saw the one
with the chain saw massacre guy getting blocked by the mom again, and these are
really fun. It’s really the way these psycho killers and zombies and stuff act
all disappointed that they get blocked that’s so much fun here. Of course, we
all know that the chain saw massacre guy can just cut her head off with his
chain saw and let her kids watch all the gory horror movies that they want, but
he doesn’t do it. And for me, it’s not just because she’s the boss of the TV;
it’s because the mom commands respect from everybody. There’s a 1950s comedy movie called The
Ladykillers about these vicious criminals
who hatch a plan to steal a huge load of cash with the unwitting help of some old
lady that one of them rents a room from, and when she finds out about it, she
scolds them, and they all obey her (!) until they end up knocking each other
off, and she ends up getting to keep all the money, because when she tries to
turn it in, the police are so used to her making a fuss about nothing, they
assume she’s batty. It’s hilarious! My grandmother was the same way: even our
huge Rottweiler, like everyone else, bowed down in submission to her! And I
think it’s this idea used in this movie The Ladykillers that makes these fun, silly PSAs work so well, with
someone’s mom banishing the monsters from the house, and them just accepting
the judgment and sulking off.
