I saw The Amazing Spider-Man recently, and the villain guy is The Lizard. Well, in a touch I don’t
remember from the comic books from my childhood, the Lizard always seems to
have all these little lizards around him that reminded me of the Geico gecko,
and that made me realize that the Lizard is just trying to save everyone money
on car insurance, but that Spider-Man, like the Mayhem guy from the Allstate
ads, works for another insurance company, and so is always trying to wreck
stuff owned by Geico customers.
So why not have Spider-Man be the mascot for some insurance
company (like Allstate), which shows him saving Allstate customers’ cars and
property from damage, and have the Lizard be the mascot for Geico, and have him
get mad when Spider-Man saves Allstate customers’ stuff by throwing it onto
Geico customers’ stuff, and so then they fight. And so then the movie could be
sponsored by two insurance companies, and each character could be an example of
product placement. And whichever company pays more money to the production gets
to have their mascot win. (And it’s just too bad for Spider-Man if working for
a print newspaper doesn’t pay as much as big pharma!)
(BTW: The Lizard in the comic books was way cooler than this
movie version. After all, where was the white lab coat and purple pants?
Everyone knows The Lizard, like The Incredible Hulk, wears purple pants
exclusively! {They both must shop at Pym’s Pink & Purple Pants Emporium!*})
