Geico Unwise Owl Ad

In this ad from Geico, we are treated to another of their literalizations of idiomatic expressions, this time about the “wise owl” trope. And so we see two owls, with one talking about how her friend is coming over, and the other one, presumably her husband, keeps saying: “Who?”

Well, that might seem dumb to some people, but I think this owl is conspicuous in his wisdom; for if he claims ignorance for long enough, perhaps his wife will get impatient with him, and he won’t have to spend the evening with her friend(s). And to many men, I’m guessing the strategy utilized by this owl appears pretty wise indeed. After all, he gets out of having to hang out with her friend(s), and without overtly insulting any of them specifically. And really, guys, isn’t feigning ignorance sometimes the most wise thing to do?

But of course this woman thinks this owl isn’t wise: because she doesn’t understand his true motives! But don’t tell her, or else maybe we can’t use the same strategy later on…

Am I right guys? (<Looking around for support from others.)

Here’s the spot with the hidden wisdom:
