Hey, this ad rips off that Dodge Ram ad with the
motorcycles, only this time an outlaw biker gang stops to let a black BMW SUV pass
out of respect. Hmm, I doubt that would really happen, because didn’t that guy
who got assaulted by the biker group in New York City drive a black SUV?
There’s just nothing that makes bikers less likely to respect a type of car
than when it hits one of them.
But maybe the biker gang stops to let the black SUV pass
ahead of them this time because they don’t want any of their group to get hit,
leading them to lose their tempers and chase and beat up the driver, leading to
criminal charges. So maybe they’re just trying to be careful, assuming anyone
driving a black SUV is a yuppie who is frightened by bikers, so the SUV driver
doesn’t freak out, and it has nothing to do with repect?
But hey, nice try, making it look like the BMW commands
respect everywhere. In reality, a vintage BMW motorcycle might earn a nod from
motorcycle enthusiasts, since the rider is likely a gearhead, and BMW bikes are
pretty cool, but I doubt a new SUV would, as it’s likely driven by a yuppie.
Here’s the “respectful” spot:
And here’s the Dodge Ram “Respect” commercial this BMW one
rips off:
I think the BMW ad people are trying to fix the problem in
this Dodge Ram ad, which I covered in this previous post (This issue being that
the Dodge Ram driver seems scared sh!tless of the bikers, which belies the “Respect”
label. Of course, this BMW ad just acts arrogant, and that’s not really what I’d
call “Respect” either.):
But you know, maybe there ought to be a moratorium on biker
gangs encountering black SUVs in ads for a while, just out of respect for the
real life incident that happened on the West Side Highway in NYC.
