People have complained about plenty of things at the Sochi
Winter Games, but I have to commend the Russians on their honesty on the
luge/skeleton track slogan. It says, clearly, on the wall: “Hot. Cool. Yours.”
And obviously “Hot” means it’s hot outside, “Cool” means the snow and ice aren’t
going to be cold enough for a decent surface on most events, and “Yours” means
that’s what you’re going to get whether you like it or not.
(I do think they’re trying pretty hard to make this work,
but it’s just too far south for a good measure of cold. Maybe St. Petersburg
next time? Or perhaps Siberia?)
