Some people like to say that we weren’t created and we also didn’t evolve, but rather, were manipulated into our current form by the meddlesome interference of little green men from outer space. Okay, maybe they didn’t have to be little or green, but I’m pretty sure I got the “from outer space” part right, right?* Anyway, this is generally an alternate explanation for “the great question” about our origins, etc., but while they’re so pleased with themselves for thinking it up and claiming it disproves the existence of God, etc., they fail to mention and perhaps even realize that this explanation doesn’t answer the question at all. Rather, it simply serves to say: “Hey, look over there! It’s a flying saucer!”
Basically, ancient alien theory serves as a distraction from, rather than an answer to, the big questions about where we came from, etc. I say that because, while if true, it may explain how we directly came to be as we are, and how we learned to develop certain technologies, it doesn’t explain where they (the aliens) came from (by “where they came from”, I mean how they came to be, not what planet they’re from), or how they learned the technologies in the first place. And as such, it doesn’t really explain much of anything that we really want to know anyway. So basically, it’s just a cheat.
* Actually, admittedly some people claim they could have come from the future and may be from Earth! But that still doesn’t answer the big questions, either. It’s still just a distraction, rather than an answer, even if it's true!
