Okay, this is a fun ad, but they’re making a big mistake here. It’s a funny spot, but by showing the rats playing guitars and rocking out with some metal songs on Rock Band/Guitar Hero (or whatever passé video game fad), and then showing them cruising around in some awesome old hot-rod car, they’re making the rats seem like super-cool people to hang out with! Now everyone’s going to want to be infested with rats, since they’re so much fun to hang out with, and Orkin will go out of business! Oh, but not before PeTA uses this commercial as proof that rats are wonderful pets, and then forces the government to ban killing them, so we’ll all be forced to live our whole lives up to our eyeballs in squirming, festering, mangy rats! And all because of this commercial!
Well, when all this comes to pass, it will be Orkin’s own fault! Of course, I suppose that when the animal-rights protesters show up to picket Orkin, the pest guys could always spray them with their pesticides and make them have to run away and take a shower (something hippies never want to have to do!). Then they could use video footage of that incident to prove their stuff really works to get rid of pests! Actually, now that I think about it, maybe this is going to work out pretty well for everyone after all!
