DirecTV Genie Ad

In this new TV spot for DirecTV, we take this silly, annoying “DVR Is Full” screen campaign one step further, to where we now meet a DirecTV “Genie”, a hot, pouty-lipped negligee-wearing sex kitten who I guess they are saying now lives in the homes of all DirecTV customers. But what will this do to the American family? Has DirecTV decided that they haven’t driven families apart enough with all their disparate programming that nobody can ever agree on, the violent content that makes everyone fight all the time, and all the sex channels that make everyone a lonely sex addict, blind to the needs of their spouses and (if applicable) children? And so now they are sending a hot lingerie-model-looking succubus to go live in everyone’s homes so that she will seduce everyone in the house and turn them all against each other?

I know what their game is! They want to drive all families apart so that each individual family member will have to get a separate home or apartment, and then they’ll all have to subscribe to DirecTV separately, making piles more money for DirecTV! (Those fiends!)

Or, might this tactic backfire on DirecTV, leading heartbroken, disillusioned broken families to recognize that it was DirecTV’s services that led to the fracturing of their beloved family, and so from this point forward, they will subscribe to AT&T, FiOS, or Charter instead?

Here’s the DirecTV “G” (for “Genie”) spot (I guess they’re going by that old advertising adage: sex sells.):


(Now, naturally I’m only joking here. But some of DirecTV’s advertising is a bit questionable these days, don’t you think? This current campaign could start marriage spats just by itself, with some guy wanting to get DirecTV, and his wife might say: “Oh, you just want to get that sexy “Genie”, don’t you, you cheating creep?!” {And then they get divorced.})
