I'm (sort of) watching the GoDaddy.com Bowl. It's being played in the stadium where I had to escort a hostile cheerleader during my high school's homecoming game (I was in student government: but I was corrupt! I always took bribes from corporate lobbiers, and I got caught posting my boner on Twitter. {Juts kidding! We never got offered bribes in high school student government: that's only for the real government. And there was no Twitter back then yet, so I had to post the picture on the bulletin board at school.}), so I figured I ought to watch it.
Ah, but this bowl game is a strange match-up, in my opinion. Because one of the teams is Kent State. Shouldn't they play against Army? It could be called "The Protest Bowl", in honor of the Vietnam War protest that got students killed by the National Guard, and it could be a grudge match between hawks and doves. And the crowd could have all the military types and Republican jingoists on one side, and Code Pink and Wikileaks, etc., as well as all the anti-war hippies on the other. (Imagine all the fights that would break out in the parking lot!)
Oh, it would be a great microcosm of American culture right there in one place! They really ought to do it! And both sides would hate the other, because Kent State students were shot and killed by the National Guard, a branch of the armed forces, and they were protesting against the Army and their waging of a foreign war, which many like-minded war protesters then used as an excuse to spit upon returning soldiers suffering from PTSD, as well as call them "baby killers", etc., which the Army probably is still fuming about! So this game, if it were held every year, would be a definite grudge match, and it would be a real spectacle for all to behold!
Don't you think they owe it to us as a cathartic event, allowing each radical wing of the left and right to fight it out on the field and in the stands (and in the parking lot) each and every year? I think so! So write to the BCS, the NCAA, and the Congress, and demand "The Protest Bowl"!
(I think we should all protest if they don't do it!)
