I heard on NPR today about some drug gang that's named after an old religious organization, and the reporter was asked if there was any religious significance to the group's crimes. Well, he didn't know, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense for a criminal organization to commit crimes for religious reasons. Because, you see, according to religion, money is the root of all evil. And so if a criminal organization steals all the money, they remove the corrupting influence, leaving the world a perfect utopia just like the Garden of Eden. So I'm sure that's what criminal gangs are really up to: trying to rid the world of evil.
And that's probably why there's so much waste, fraud and abuse in the government too: they're trying to protect us from the evil influence of all the money they make disappear.
