Seeing the Black Flag song "Rise Above" used so effectively in an ad for Major League Soccer made me think of other early Black Flag songs that might work well in ads. So here are a few suggestions:
"Six Pack": One of the Budweiser Clydesdales gets a rebellious streak, so he gets into listening to punk rock music, he spikes his mane up like a mohawk haircut, he wears a black leather bridle with metal spikes, he gets branded with a (Black Flag) brand (to be like a tattoo on a human), and he listens to Black Flag on his iPod. And the music he listens to (and the song we hear blaring on the soundtrack), of course, is the song "Six Pack", because it's an advert for (Budweiser) beer! And at the end of the spot we see a picture of a frosty six pack of Budweiser.
"TV Party": This song would be perfect (if edited a bit for lyrical content) for a TV commercial for either a specific brand of large flat-screen TV sets (like Samsung), or as an ad for a big box retailer (like Best Buy) for a big TV and home entertainment sale. The ad could show some guy's crappy TV at home, and then show him walking past the store, see a great TV set, etc., in the window, and then he goes inside to see all the great TV sets and surround-sound speakers, etc., and then the Black Flag song "TV Party" starts playing: "TV Party tonight! TV Party tonight!" And then he gets all excited, and then the picture cuts to him at home with the new giant screen TV set watching football (or whatever) with a bunch of his friends having a big party in front of the TV.
"Depression": This song would be perfect for a commercial for some antidepressant, like so: Some maladjusted guy is having a hard time working at work, he's looking unhappy with friends, and just generally miserable, all while the Black Flag song "Depression" plays in the background. So after the singer sings some of the chorus ("Depression's got a hold on me; Depression, I've got to break free; Depression's got a hold on me; Depression, it's gonna kill me!"), the spokesperson says that you don't have to let depression get a hold of you, because there's (whatever depression medication). And then, after being treated with this medication by a psychiatrist, the guy feels much better, and the song "Rise Above" starts playing.
"Spray Paint": This would work well in an ad for Krylon Spray Paint. In this spot, disaffected skatepunk youths would be seen riding skateboards around and spray-painting cool graffiti art on the walls of some urban locale, and the song could play in the background and scream: "Spray paint the walls!"
