Skoal Bandits Logo

I saw the Skoal Bandits logo again recently, and it shows a man with a black cowboy hat on and a red bandana over his nose and mouth. So what's the bandana for: to cover his facial disfigurement from the mouth cancer and tooth loss he got from using chewing tobacco? Or is it so nobody knows what he looks like so he can't get sued when people get sick from using these products he's helping to advertise? And why are they called "Bandits" anyway? Do they rob us of our teeth and health? I'm just curious.

(I used to dip Skoal when I was in high school. I haven't had any health issues I know of yet, but I knew people who got some health scares from dipping.)
