This ad runs a lot on cable news, and it’s pretty funny how often it’s on. But it never struck me until today how silly it is. They have some guy on who says: “Everywhere I turn, people are talking about gold prices!” But he works for Goldline, so of course everyone is always talking about gold prices wherever he turns: that’s what they do there! They’re always talking to potential clients, trying to get them to buy gold by saying how much the prices will go up. Even if gold prices were falling and crashing through the floor, everyone would still be talking about gold prices where he was (in fact, they would be panicking about it!), so that’s not really all that great of a recommendation, if you know what I mean.
It’s like a McDonald’s employee raving: “Everywhere I turn, people are ordering hamburgers!” Of course they are! You work at McDonald’s taking orders for hamburgers! What did you expect to hear people doing there? See what I mean? This Goldline ad is doing the same thing! It’s really quite silly when you think about it. And it’s misleading too, don’t you think?
