Last night, I saw a sketch comedy group do a fake Valtrex-type pharmaceutical commercial, and it reminded me of the real Valtrex ad that was running back in the 2006-2008 era. These ads had a guy saying (no kidding!): “I have genital herpes, but I don’t let it slow me down.” (!!) So what naturally came to mind when I saw that was for him to say: “Hi. I have genital herpes, but I don’t let it slow me down! I just have sex with whoever I want to; so pretty soon you’ll probably have herpes too. That’s why you should know about once-a-day Valtrex. It helps hide those revealing herpes flare-ups, so people can’t tell you have herpes. That way, it’s way easier for you to spread herpes, and they can sell lots more of these pills!”
I can’t find the actual ad I’m talking about on YouTube (no wonder!), but you can see lots of other silly joke-versions of that Valtrex ad campaign if you look there and do a search for “Valtrex commercial”.
