Legoland is running some ads about special Star Wars attractions for kids, and it seems like everything is made of Lego nowadays. But there is one thing they’re forgotten, and until they do it, there will always be something missing at Legoland!
That’s right: naturally I’m talking about making Eggo Waffles out of Lego! They’ve had the slogan: “Leggo my Eggo!” for as long as I can remember, and hasn’t that really been a secret wish, imploring Lego to make their waffles out of Lego all along? And after so many years of those ad campaigns running on TV, begging Lego to make Lego versions of their waffles for some zany cross-platform promotion, isn’t it about time Lego granted their wish? I think it would be mean not to do it!
When I was a kid, I remember seeing those “Leggo my Eggo” commercials on TV during the cartoons and stuff, and it never seemed like they were actually saying what the ad creators intended, which is for the character speaking to use the imperative statement: “Let go of my Eggo waffle!” No, it always sounded to me (and my niece agrees with me about the new ads that use the same “Leggo my Eggo” line) that they were saying: “Please make my waffle out of Lego!” And after hearing it for years and years, I have one simple question (and a subsequent declarative statement): “Where is that Eggo waffle made out of Lego already? They’ve been nagging us to death about it for years!”
Here’s an example of the “Leggo my Eggo” ads from the 1980s:
