Everyone seems to be talking about Mitt Romney when they’re discussing the upcoming presidential election, and it’s looking like he’s the de facto frontrunner. I guess I must have seen some political ads for Mitt Romney, but I can’t remember them, so they must be pretty forgettable. But I have an idea for a couple of ads for Mitt Romney everybody will remember! Want to hear what they are? Too late! I’m going to tell you anyway!
So the first commercial begins with a series of video clips of Ronald Reagan, saying the most famous things from his best-known speeches (like “Tear down this wall!”, etc.), and then they show video of Mitt Romney at a very similar-looking podium, in front of a very similar-looking background, and the announcer says: “Mitt Romney: He kinda looks like Ronald Reagan, right? Isn’t that enough for you already?” And he could even be wearing that plastic Reagan hair like Devo used to do, just to make sure we all get it.
In another spot, they could have the same speech highlights of Ronald Reagan speaking, but have video of Mitt Romney lip-synching the stuff, rather than showing Reagan on the screen. Wouldn’t that actually say what they’re trying to say better than anything else? (Of course, it would be a pretty funny and humiliating way to convey that message, but whatever. Hey, at least it would come out and say it! And who knows: we might fall for it!)
