New Pepsi Ads

Pepsi has fallen to third place in the cola wars, even falling behind diet (yuck!) Coke. Pretty soon, they’ll be falling behind RC Cola! (<Actually, I like that one!) What can they do? Well, if I were them, I’d ruin my logo, and then I’d try to rip off old Coke commercials: that way everyone would want to buy Pepsi instead of Coke, right? No? Okay, maybe not, but at least they’d all remind everyone about Coke again, so they could go buy it instead. Um, wait; was that what they were trying to do? I wouldn’t have thought so, but…

Okay, look: everybody knows Pepsi is just a second-rate Coke, right? If it weren’t, then why would they be trying to bash Coke by ripping off their old commercials? That’s what the little upstart always tries to do to bash the big successful company! (Plus their ad creatives don’t have to think of anything new!) So by doing that, they’re basically admitting that Coke is the de facto “king of the hill”, so they’re reminding everyone Coke is more popular anyway. (And if something is more popular than another old brand, it’s usually because it’s better.) If they’re going to do that, they might as well go back to doing “The Pepsi Challenge” again: it seemed to me that was working pretty well for them back in the day; or are they afraid they’d lose now? I don’t know, but it kinda seems that way to me, somehow.

But when Pepsi tries to use Santa Claus and polar bears in their ads, it seems like a cheap shot. After all, doesn’t Coca-Cola own them? I heard that all the polar bears were drowning not because of global warming, but because they realized they’d been tricked into betraying their friend Coca-Cola, and so they’ve been committing suicide en masse! And what about Santa Claus? In that Pepsi ad, he’s partying with a bunch of people, and a couple of elves are there. So he only brought along a couple of his elves and the rest had to stay behind and work? But does he even pay the elves to make toys? If not, isn’t he a slave-owner? And then, Pepsi would be using a slave-owner as a spokesman! Is this a good idea? I don’t think so!

And, Pepsi has had the temerity to change their logo from something cool to something lame! The new logo looks to me like some sunburned guy who’s pulling down his jeans to look at his tan-line. Seriously! Check it out and see if you don’t agree!

Here is the new Pepsi logo (but simply do a Google Images search for “new Pepsi logo” to see how some people are making fun of it already! That wasn’t so easy to do with the old logo!):
