Curses! No More Cursive?

There’s a new story on the news claiming schools are planning on discontinuing teaching kids cursive writing so they can teach them good keyboard skills instead. This is outrageous! I… Wait a minute; Um, I never actually ever used cursive writing myself except for when they made me do it in school. So maybe it’s not that big of a deal, unless by “keyboards”, they mean synthesizers, because then all the kids will be annoying everyone with long, trippy, irritating Emerson, Lake & Palmer keyboard solos all the time! And this we cannot allow!

Okay, maybe some parents are up-in-arms about this decision, but look: if your kids write in regular handwriting really sloppily, it will look a lot like cursive writing anyway, and I’ll bet nobody will even be able to tell the difference. That’s what I do, and it works fine! Even I can’t read my own writing, and it totally looks like cursive writing, too! So this may not end up being such a big deal after all.

And hey: Maybe we can just go back to leaving a “mark” instead of a signature anyway. It worked in olden-times, and weren’t they called: “the good old days”? And I heard that’s the only reason they were considered “good” in the first place! So there!
