I'm not really up on my cereal advertising, since I don't watch a lot of kids TV, but in watching the volleyball and the beach volleyball, it seems to me that I hear the term "dig" a lot (as in: bounce the ball up with one's hand before it hits the ground, as part of the "dig-set-spike" game plan). Well, couldn't that be used in an ad for Honey Smacks, since they always say "dig 'em" about them, and use a beach volleyball (or regular volleyball) theme for the ad? (I don't know if anyone has ever done this {I have not seen it, but that doesn't prove anything.}, but it would be a natural fit, especially with sugared cereals trying to appear more health conscious lately, what with the obesity epidemic and all, so tying the cereal in with a popular sport might help with their image.)
So what they could do is this: Show kids playing beach volleyball on the beach (or regular volleyball in a gym at school), and they run out of energy or something. So then the animated frog shows up and says: "Dig 'em!" And the kid can't dig the ball, so the frog holds out a bowl of the cereal in milk, and says: "Dig 'em so you can dig 'em!" (As in: eat this cereal to give you energy to play the game well.) Then the announcer could talk about having a complete breakfast, yadda yadda, to get good energy for the day, in whatever active activity you're up to, etc. And then they show the frog playing volleyball with the kids, and the kids are kicking butt, proving that Honey Smacks are a good energy source for an active lifestyle (or claiming as much, anyway).
And if that worked, maybe Honey Smacks could sponsor teams, or television coverage, or whatever. And perhaps they could get celebrity beach volleyball endorsements, and put these people in their ads, showing how Honey Smacks fuels them for playing their sport. (Allegedly: not everyone actually uses the products they advertise for, you know.)
