"The Odd Life of Timothy Green"-Inspired Horror Movie?
I have been seeing these ads for the upcoming movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green throughout the London Olympic Games coverage, and since he's obviously some kind of garden-grown pod person out to conquer the world through emotional manipulation, it made me think of a possible horror movie rip-off of this idea: The Horror of Plant Boy. In this movie, a super-intelligent carnivorous plant (like a really big, man-eating Venus Fly Trap-type of plant) would target couples who want children but can't have any, and it would create this cute little boy to send to the family to answer their prayers. Oh, but this "boy" is a curse, because it's just a lure! That's right, this cute little boy has little vines growing out of his ankles, and once he tricks someone into hugging him, the vines pull the person back into the man-eating plant's mouth, and it eats them! (Munch, munch.) And so then the word spreads, and nobody trusts cute children anymore, always checking their heels for vines and such. And people everywhere must resist the siren-song call of the kid-hug-lure! That's The Horror of Plant Boy: coming soon to a theater near you! (Actually, probably not. But it would probably work pretty well as a horror movie if it actually got made. It might need a better title, though, than The Horror of Plant Boy, which is an intentionally silly title. Oh, wait; I know: How about The Parent Trap? {That's also the title of a cute 1961 Disney family film.} No? Well, then, how about The Venus Parent Trap? That might work pretty well.)
