Well, the folks at NBC said there would be a big musical reunion surprise in store for the Olympic closing ceremony, and I guess some people might not have been disappointed. They acted like it would be some each-shaking reunion, so I was expecting maybe The Jam, or Oasis (the singer made it, at least), or the Smiths, or maybe Led Zeppelin with Jason Bonham on the drums, but it was (drum roll, please!): The Spice Girls!
I didn't notice they were even gone until they had their reunion last night. But they actually were kind of fun, riding around on top of those black London cabs. And that made me start to think of advertising tie-ins for their big reunion (but mostly silly ones).
Okay, so first off they could have a Spice Girls Spice Grilled Spicy Chicken Sandwich at Wendy's, and they could do a duet or a back & forth with The Wendys (my idea for a fictional all-redheads all-girl band to play: "We Got the Beef" {a modified version of The Go-Go's "We Got the Beat"}) in ads: The Spice Girls singing about their spicy chicken sandwich, and The Wendys could sing about how Wendy's has the beef. (I want a Spice Girls Spice Grilled Spicy Chicken Sandwich right how!)
Then, of course, the Spice Girls could sell their own signature Spice Girls Spice Rack and Spices Collection, for all your favorite spicy cooking needs!
And, if they're game, they could do a Spice Girls ad for Old Spice: In this one, they would all wear old age makeup and act like it's 25 years in the future, and in the ad, they would pretend to do a "reunion" tour, sponsored by Old Spice: The Old Spice Girls World Tour!
